What to do?

'Where to start?' more like!

There are endless things to do from this wonderful corner of Scotland - not only in East Lothian but also in the Borders and north Northumberland. Oldhamstocks Cottage is just three miles from the coast, thereby giving access to some of the most beautiful sandy beaches of East Lothian, Berwickshire and north Northumberland. Within 30 minutes there are 19 golf courses catering for golfers of all standards and tastes. Some of these are world renowned: North Berwick, Gullane, Dunbar and The Open Championship course at Muirfield (25 minutes).

If golf's not your cup of 'tee' then feast on the following:

  • Edinburgh: one of the finest cities in Europe (35 minutes away) with Edinburgh Castle and the various galleries and museums, not forgetting the beautiful Botanical Gardens and of course The Royal Yacht Britannia.
  • In July and August the city plays host to the International and the Fringe Festivals as well as the Grand Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle.
  • North Berwick, Tantallon Castle, The Scottish Seabird Centre and the Bass Rock are within 25 minutes.
  • Museums galore including Concorde at the Museum of Flight (20 minutes)
  • Kelso and Floors Castle (40 minutes)
  • Scuba diving and delicious seafood at St. Abbs Head and Eyemouth (20 minutes)
  • Berwick upon Tweed (25 minutes), Haddington (20 minutes) and Dunbar (12 minutes)
  • Lindisfarne Priory and Bamburgh Castle (45 minutes)
  • Alnwick Castle and its world famous gardens (55 minutes)
  • Local fishing, riding, cycling, swimming and sailing galore.
  • The Southern Upland Way - surely one of Britain's best kept secrets - starts/finishes in the next door village of Cockburnspath, making Oldhamstocks a fantastic base for a genuinely superb walking holiday.
